Last Updated: July 10, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how NetWorth Explained ("we," "us," or "our") handles information when you visit networthexplained.com and its subdomains, including the NYC Live Command Center at nyc.networthexplained.com (together, the "Site"). NetWorth Explained is the controller of the personal data described here. The final section of this policy describes information specific to the NYC Live Command Center.
1. Information We Collect
Email address. If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address and store it securely. We use it only to send newsletter content. You can unsubscribe at any time by contacting us.
Usage data. We use Google Analytics (GA4) to collect anonymized information about how visitors use the Site: pages visited, time on page, and general geographic region. This data is aggregated and does not identify you personally.
Advertising data. We display ads through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising through Google's Ad Settings.
Cookies. Our Site and third-party services (Google Analytics, Google AdSense) use cookies. You can control or clear cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect ad personalization and some site features.
Account data. If you create an account on the NYC Live Command Center, we collect the information described in the final section of this policy. No account is required to read our articles or view the cameras.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to send newsletter emails to subscribers, to operate accounts and comments on the NYC Live Command Center, to understand how the Site is used and improve it, and to display advertising. We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes, and we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act.
3. Legal Basis for Processing
If you are located in the European Union or the United Kingdom, we process your personal data on the following legal bases:
- Consent: for newsletter emails, advertising cookies, and analytics cookies. You may withdraw consent at any time.
- Contract: to create and operate an account you have requested, and to display content you have posted.
- Legitimate interests: to keep the Site secure, to prevent abuse, and to understand aggregate usage so we can improve the Site. We balance these interests against your rights and freedoms.
4. Third-Party Services
The Site uses the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:
- Google Analytics: site analytics. Google Privacy Policy
- Google AdSense: advertising (networthexplained.com only). Google Privacy Policy
- Google Firebase: authentication and database for NYC Live Command Center accounts and comments. Google Privacy Policy
- Cloudflare: CDN, security, and hosting infrastructure. Cloudflare Privacy Policy
5. Affiliate Links
Some links on this Site are affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate links are labeled with a disclosure on the relevant page. Affiliate relationships do not influence our editorial content or assessments.
6. Data Retention
We keep personal data only for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy:
- Newsletter email addresses: until you request removal or unsubscribe.
- Account data: for as long as your account remains open. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove the associated account record.
- Comments and leaderboard entries: these are public and remain visible until you delete them or we remove them.
- Analytics and advertising data: retained according to the respective third-party service policies.
7. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal data. The Site is served over HTTPS, account credentials are handled by Google Firebase Authentication and are never stored by us in plain text, and access to administrative credentials is restricted. No method of transmission or storage over the internet is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. International Data Transfers
We operate from outside the United States, and our service providers (including Google and Cloudflare) process and store data on servers located in the United States and other countries. If you access the Site from the European Union, the United Kingdom, or elsewhere, your personal data may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in a country whose data-protection laws differ from those of your own. Where required, our providers rely on recognized transfer mechanisms such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
9. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data; to object to or restrict how we process it; and to withdraw consent at any time. If you are a California resident, you also have the right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising these rights, and we confirm that we do not sell or share your personal information.
To exercise any of these rights, please reach us through our Contact page. We will respond within the period required by applicable law.
If you are located in the European Union or the United Kingdom and you believe we have not handled your data properly, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection supervisory authority.
10. Children's Privacy
This Site is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Where changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to highlight them. Continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
12. Contact
For privacy-related questions or requests, please reach us through our Contact page.
13. NYC Live Command Center (nyc.networthexplained.com)
This section describes information handled specifically by the NYC Live Command Center. The Command Center uses Google Analytics (GA4), as described in Sections 1 and 4. Its usage data is recorded in a Google Analytics property dedicated to the Command Center, separate from the property used for the main networthexplained.com site. It does not display AdSense advertising.
Account information. Creating an account is optional. You can browse every camera without one. If you register, we collect your email address, a display name you choose, and a password. Authentication is handled by Firebase Authentication, and account records are stored in Google Cloud Firestore.
Publicly visible content. Comments you post, and any display name or handle you submit to the leaderboard, are stored in Cloud Firestore and are readable by other visitors. Please do not include information you would not want to be public. You may delete your own comments at any time.
Information stored on your device. The Command Center saves a small number of preferences in your browser's local storage, for example your view mode, your label preference, and an anonymous identifier used to limit duplicate leaderboard entries. This information stays on your device.
Third-party content requests. Camera images and live data load directly from public sources, including the New York City Department of Transportation and NYC Open Data. When your browser requests that content, those providers may receive your IP address and standard request information. We do not control their data practices.
Services used. In addition to Cloudflare hosting, the Command Center uses Google Analytics and Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore). See Google's Privacy Policy.
Deleting your data. You can delete your own comments from within the Command Center. To delete your account and its associated data, please reach us through our Contact page.
